VP - Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

The Client

  • A multinational bank operating in over 50 markets worldwide. With a strong presence in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, it provides a range of banking services, including retail, corporate, and investment banking.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • SRE Leadership & Strategy: Lead the implementation of SRE principles, define reliability engineering strategy, and drive automation, scalability, and resilience across systems.

  • Technical Excellence: Establish and maintain SLI/SLO/Error budgets, optimize performance, ensure security compliance, and drive continuous improvement through automation and tooling.

  • Business & Governance: Act as a trusted advisor, align technology strategy with business goals, manage stakeholder expectations, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • People & Capability Development: Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team, foster a culture of innovation, and drive capability development through training and thought leadership.

  • Risk & Incident Management: Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, capacity planning, and proactive risk mitigation to ensure high availability and system reliability.

Candidate Profile:

  • Extensive SRE & Leadership Experience: 10+ years overall experience, 5 + years as an SRE Engineer or in a similar leadership role, driving reliability and scalability initiatives.

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in troubleshooting, scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD tools. Strong background in Java application debugging, log management (Splunk), and security best practices.

  • Monitoring & Observability: Hands-on experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, AppDynamics, Splunk, and PagerDuty to ensure system reliability and proactive issue resolution.

  • Industry & Compliance Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the banking/financial services industry, regulatory compliance, architecture standards, and risk management.

  • Strategic & People Leadership: Experienced in capability building, skill gap identification, and upskilling teams. Strong communication, collaboration, and ability to drive technology vision across organizations
