Managing Director (EPCC)

Job description

A leading renewable energy firm is looking for a high calibre Managing Director to lead the EPCC division and orchestrate all end-to-end delivery of solar projects accross the region. This position reports directly to the Group CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and executing the organisation's solar projects across the region
  • Formulate and execute strategic plans and goals for the EPCC division, ensuring they align with the company's overall objectives
  • Oversee the creation of project execution strategies, timelines, and budgets to fulfil project requirements and deadlines
  • Supervise the engineering design process for distributed generation and utility-scale solar projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
  • Manage a team of engineers and technical specialists to provide top-notch engineering solutions, including system design, electrical layout, equipment selection, and interconnection requirements
  • Evaluate and approve engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation to ensure they are accurate and complete
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives to streamline project delivery processes, boost efficiency, and maximize profitability
  • Monitor the implementation, operation and performance of all solar projects, including energy storage with business partners
  • Develop strategic planning and business development plans with new ventures, group strategy and innovation teams for solar projects
  • Identify and explore potentials of existing and future trends, opportunities and its risks within the renewable energy industry
  • Lead and direct the procurement and management of externals consultants and project manager and ensure that the required levels of competence are embedded within all consultants appointed
  • Ensure the development is in full adherence with all company's SOPs and governance manuals, whether technical design, group risk, construction, insurance or others
  • Review financial analysis on each business opportunity to understand the profitability of the projects
  • Lead the process to ensure value engineering and risk workshops are properly adhered to and well managed throughout the life cycle of the project
  • Oversee contractors' construction activities and manage the integration of the project with the transmission network operator
  • Ensure quality construction standards are met using project construction techniques and equipment
  • Lead and control the overall development program and phasing, replan, resequencing and mitigate as necessary to stay on track
  • Monitor and report periodically on project completion to schedule and budget
  • Evaluate and track contractor performance against contractual obligations

Key Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or similar field of study
  • Minimum fifteen years of project management experience within the renewable energy industry
  • Prior experience managing large scale solar power plant projects would be ideal
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be an added advantage
  • Strong technical expertise in Solar Energy Systems, Electrical Design, Civil/Electrical Engineering, and Construction practices
  • Experience with High-Voltage Substation and Interconnection Facility would be a huge plus
  • Have a strong financial and commercial acumen to handle project costings and financing
  • Have prior financial closure background for large-scale construction projects
  • Ability to lead the process to establish all relevant statutory authority requirements and risk mitigation to ensure smooth local authority approvals
  • Proficiency in Project Management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to work autonomously, be self-driven and not reliant on others
  • Able to adapt yourself well in various international settings for long periods of time
  • Able to resolve conflicts, visionary and possess the foresight to plan ahead for the business
